I've downloaded a few new albums that I think are FANTASTIC. Sometimes I go through phases where I don't get new music and I sort of feel dead inside and out of touch with the world. I like nothing better than spending an afternoon listening and researching new tunes to enjoy.
On the mellower end of things I found Sarah Jarosz I love her voice and it's crazy, she was only 17 when she recorded this. She's sort of bluegrassy folky stuff, which speaking of, my absolute newest favorite folky album find is Lissie Her voice is so dark and gothic sounding. I love it. The only downside to this album is that it only has 5 songs. It's like a teaser album and I hope she comes out with something new soon. I also rather like the new Charolotte Gainsbourg album that Beck produced. You can really hear Beck's influence on this album and it's wonderful. Speaking of French chicks, I've also come to love (and maybe it's just her gravely French voice mixed with the fact that she is a rock star dating ex-supermodel) is Carla Bruni (who also happens to be first lady of France currently). I have no idea what she is saying, but I don't think it really matters and I love it. I also downloaded a song by a Canadian artist named Anjulie the song "Boom" is fun, sarcastic and I like the beat.
One artist that I can't wait (and don't know if it will even happen) to release a new album is Amy Winehouse. I still play the crap out of Back to Black and need some new Amy to cook and sing to. Desperately. All of her drug and personal problems aside, she is an amazing artist who I think has barely shown her potential to the world. So I'm crossing my fingers that a new album comes out this year. I hope, I hope, I hope!!!
I realize that all the artists I just listed are women, maybe next I'll do an all male list. But it's hard to find interesting non-cheesy male singer-songwriters. Or I'm just partial to women when it comes to things I like to sing along to.
